They do feel a bit more comfortable compared to the Nova Pro however, possibly due to the nylon padding and a less rigid clamp force.
This results in the ear cups weighing on my ears from the top and causing discomfort over time, despite the headset being pretty lightweight at 325g. For my ears at least, I find the ear cups to be a tad bit small as they don’t fully cover around my ears. I noted in my Nova Pro review that I did not find the ear cups to be entirely comfortable, and such is the case with the Nova 7 as well. The comfort on these is a bit hit and miss. I could hear everything that was going around me while using the headset, be it the vacuum going on in the background, or my nephew raging at Fortnite. If you find leather padding to be too hot and stuffy, these nylon padding should do the trick, albeit at the cost of some passive noise canceling and sound leakage. The one key departure from the Nova Pro’s design is the return of Steelseries’ AirWeave fabric for the earcups. However, once you find your right fit, it should pose no problem and feel sturdy enough to not wear down over time. They are harder to adjust and offer less versatility compared to Steelseries’ previous velcro-style headband strap.
I am still not too fond of the new suspension headband design, which provides three one-centimeter plastic snaps like you would find on a baseball cap. The telescoping arms remain the same from the Nova Pro series, which means that the headset should give enough height adjustment for all head sizes. You still get the steel headband and an adjustable elastic headband strap. The Nova 7 does feel slightly less polished compared to the Nova Pro, but still premium enough for a $180 device.
Steelseries’ new design refresh will be ubiquitous soon for all their headset lineup, so expect to see this design pop up in various colors and materials. The Arctis Nova 7 looks like a spitting image of the Arctis Nova Pro, but that’s no surprise.
